Year 11 Chemistry

Curriculum Subject: Chemistry

Year 10     PDF VERSION

Exam Board: Edexcel

What are we learning this term? This term we will be looking at the absolute fundamentals of chemistry. This will begin right at the very start with atomic structure, through to elements and the periodic table and then how atoms combine to form compounds. This is all brought together with chemical tests, measuring the rate of reaction and analysing chemical properties

Autumn Term:

  1. Atomic structure
  2. Electron shells and ions
  3. Ionic bonding and ionic compounds
  4. Covalent bonding and covalent compounds
  5. Chemical tests
  6. Separating techniques
  7. Rate of reaction
  8. Atomic masses

What are we learning this term? The spring term is all about the analysis in chemistry. It begins with both qualitative and quantative tests for water, ions and PH. This is followed by the calculations! Moles, concentration and number of atoms. From here we take a practical spin and tackle titrations and electrolysis. Then finally we balance equilibrium with some more organic chemistry.

Spring Term:

  1. Qualitative tests
  2. Calculating concentration
  3. Calculating number of atoms and moles
  4. Acid and base titrations
  5. Electrolysis
  6. Equilibrium and ammonia
  7. Organic Chemistry
