In an article in the Manchester Evening News MediaCityUK managing director Stephen Wild laid out his vision for the future of MediaCityUK and the importance of the UTC in that. Mr Wild said:

“This is the place where leading content specialists can interface and overlap with the leading technology and engineering specialists, all underpinned by the same skill base.”

And there is no shortage of skills in the region, says Mr Wild with confidence.

“Manchester is well documented as having over 100,000 students in its universities. Depending on how you look at it, 50,000 of those are in applicable courses, so the talent pool is fantastic.

“Putting that next to the approach of the likes of the BBC, Dock10 and ITV and that opportunity is great.”

This is set to explode even further in September as the University Technical College opens, teaching digital skills to the next generation of 14 to 19-year-olds.

“It is where the next generation of skills can be gained for those people in proximity and it is a great opportunity for the people of Salford, as well as further afield.”
