SEND - Arrangements for assessing and reviewing the progress of SEN students

Every students in the UTC has their progress reviewed regularly and this information will be shared with both parents and students. We provide reports to parents on their student’s progress, normally at the end of each term. Where a students is receiving SEN support, we provide feedback to parents more regularly. We also contact parents by phone or email where we have specific feedback or need to discuss specific achievements, concerns or observations. For all students with an identified SEND we will hold a review meeting at least three times each year, during which their targets, progresss and support will be reviewed, as ensuring their Student Profile is up to date and appropriate. Some students with SEN may have more frequent reviews if they are required. For students with an EHCP a formal Annual Review Meeting is held. These Annual Review meetings are usually led by the SENCO and will also include the Learning Support Managers and where appropriate other teachers with good knowledge and understanding of the students’s needs and attainment. Reviews normally last approximately 60 minutes, although this can vary, particularly if the student’s needs have changed or the review involves a range of different professionals. These review meeting will not exceed 90 minutes and we always aim to allow sufficient time to plan effectively. Reviews involve the students, the family and other professionals where this is appropriate. They are used to:
 discuss what is and is not working well
 find out if the SEN provision has been delivered as planned
 review the students’s progress towards their goals and longer term outcomes
 discuss and agree clear outcomes for the future
 discuss and agree the support needed
 share advice and information on the things that parents can do at home to reinforce or
contribute to their student’s progress
 identify the actions needed to meet the agreed outcomes, the responsibilities of the
parent, the students, the academy, the local authority and other partners.
A record of the outcomes, action and support agreed through the discussion is then shared with all
the appropriate school staff and the students’s parents.
