Entry Requirements

Open to all

We are a state school, funded by the Department of Education. There are no fees and no entrance exam.

Key Stage 4

There are no specific entry requirements to join us in Year 10.  Pupils must demonstrate a strong interest in the Creative and Digital Industries and attend a pathway meeting to discuss their options.

Key Stage 5

We do have specific entry requirements for Year 12.

Students are expected to achieve a minimum of 5 GCSEs at Grade 4 / Grade C or above to be able to study in our sixth form.  Students choosing A Level options, should usually have a minimum of Grade 6 in relevant GCSE subjects.

 

Catchment Area

Anyone is welcome to apply to the aldridgeUTC@MediaCityUK, wherever they live.

However, if places are oversubscribed, they will be allocated according to the priority criteria laid out below.

a)    Looked after children and previously looked after children, in accordance with the relevant provisions of the School Admissions Code.


b)    Zone A: 40% of places will be allocated to applicants who live in Salford, Manchester, Trafford and Bury. Places will be allocated via random allocation.


c)    Zone B: 30% of places will be allocated to applicants who live in Bolton, Wigan, Stockport. Places will be allocated via random allocation.


d)    Zone C: 30% of places will be allocated to applicants who live in the additional local authorities that make up Greater Manchester, which are Oldham, Rochdale and Tameside. Places will be allocated via random allocation.


e)    Students living outside the priority zones A, B and C. Priority will be given to applicants living closest to the UTC, as measured in a straight line from the applicants home address (where a child is resident for the majority of the week) to the front gates of the UTC using the Local Authority’s computerised measuring system.

Appeals

All applicants who have applied for a Year 10 place at the college and have been refused have a right to appeal that decision to an Independent Appeal Panel.  Full details on the appeals process, timetable and booklet for parents is available on Salford Council website – see link below:
