Curriculum at 14

At Key Stage 4 the curriculum has been designed to combine academic achievement with the development of the skills and knowledge required to succeed in the digital future.

The curriculum is divided into two parts:

  • Technical specialism qualification – BTEC (40%)
  • Core subject qualifications – GCSEs or EBacc (60%)

Technical specialism qualification
All students choose one of three pathways. Each pathway will study courses within the BTEC first Edexcel Level 2 Certificate in Creative Media Production Radio, TV & Film

Core subjects and option block
All students study GCSE English Language and Literature
GCSE Maths and GCSE Computer Science (IT)
A choice of sciences.You will choose two sciences and can take a third as an enrichment activity.These are taught as separate subjects, not combined, so you’ll have a strong understanding of each subject to prepare you for a university place. GSCE Biology

GCSE Physics
A humanities subject GCSE History
The opportunity to study a Modern Foreign Language GCSE Spanish
Religious education
Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE)

Physical Education
You will have an hour and a half of P.E. a week on a Wednesday afternoon. UTC@MediaCityUK is committed to promoting the importance of a healthy mind and body and the need for an effective work-life balance. Therefore the inclusion of specific time for sporting activities to take place is vital. The sports you will be involved in include: handball, lacrosse, street dance, football, cricket and athletics.
